Canva X Schoology = Breathtaking Design Assignments Are Now Possible!
Last blog post we looked at what Canva is and ways you can use it. This post is all about the practical. It’s great to have ideas on how to use it but you need to know how to access it first.
Access Canva for the First Time
Before you can start using Canva, you need to activate your account. Your students will also need to do this step before they can start using Canva in the classroom.
- Open Schoology
- Open the course you want to use Canva with
- Click on Canva for Education from the left side navigation and follow the login directions
Create Canva Assignments for Students
You can assign various assignments to the students by following these directions.
- Go to the Courses you want the students to do the assignment.
- Click on Add Materials and select Add Assignment.
- Add assignment details
- Click on the Insert Content icon and select Canva for Education.
- Select the design you’ve already created or create a new one. If you created a new design, press Publish to Schoology once done.
- Click on Create to finish setting up the assignment.
As the teacher, you can share a view-only link or generate a template link of the assignment. Students can submit a view-only link, edit link, or a PDF of their design depending on what they select.
Review Student Assignments
Once students complete their assignment and submit it, you can check and grade them on Schoology.
- Go to the Course where the assignment is located.
- Go to Assignments and open Student submissions.
- Click on a student’s submission to see their Canva design. If the design link is provided, you can click on it to view.
- Grade and add comments to the student assignment.
- Save
There you go, you have now graded the students’ work, left comments and sent it back to them!
For Students
One question you might have, “This is great for me but what about directions for students?” Don’t worry, I won’t leave you hanging. Students should follow these directions:
- Log into your student Schoology account.
- Select the course with the assignment.
- Select the Canva for Education tab to launch Canva.
- Select a design you’ve already created or create a new one.
- Once done, click on Share, enable link sharing, and copy the link. You can also download your design to then upload to the assignment. (Multiple ways to hand it in, all correct)
- Go back to your Schoology course and click Submit Assignment.
- Paste the design link. If you download your design, you can upload it instead.
- Click on Submit.
These directions are straightforward, and I think easy to follow. We also have videos that we have created to follow. Let us know if there is anything else you need in the comments below. Good luck using Canva!
